昔孟母，择邻处。

从前，孟子的母亲都会选择适合学习居住的地方。

这句话讲的是著名的“孟母三迁”的故事。孟子小时候，他家一开始住在墓地附近，孟子就常常模仿丧葬的礼仪玩耍；孟母觉得这个地方不适合孩子成长，就迁到了集市附近，孟子又学着商人做买卖的样子；孟母还是不满意，最后搬到了学堂旁边，孟子这才开始学习礼仪和文化知识，孟母才觉得这个地方适合孩子。所以，“择邻处”就是指孟母为了给孟子创造一个良好的学习环境，多次迁居。这说明了环境对人的成长，尤其是对儿童品格和学业养成的重要影响，印证了“性相近，习相远”的观点。虽然本性相近，但后天环境（习）会让人产生很大差异。

子不学，断机杼。

有一次孟子学习不用功，孟母就剪断了她正在织的布。

这句话讲的是“孟母断机”的故事。据说有一次孟子读书半途而废，想放弃。孟母看到后，拿起一把剪刀就把织布机上正在织的布剪断了。她告诉孟子：“你读书就像我织布一样，布是一根丝一根丝慢慢织出来的，现在我把机上的布剪断了，就前功尽弃了。你读书也是一样，如果半途而废，就不可能成功。” 孟子深受触动，从此发奋学习，最终成为一代大儒。这个故事强调了学习必须持之以恒、不能半途而废的道理，印证了“教之道，贵以专”中“专”所包含的坚持、不放弃的含义。它说明教育者可以通过恰当的方式来督促孩子，使其明白坚持的重要性。

Introduction to *The Three-Character Classic*:

1. *The Three-Character Classic* is one of the traditional Chinese primers for children. Together with *The Hundred Family Surnames* and *The Thousand Character Classic*, it is collectively known as the “Three Hundred and Thousand,” and is hailed as a “microcosm of Chinese culture” and the “crown of children’s education.”
