Absolute value calculation

1. The absolute value of a number is the distance from the point corresponding to that number on the number line to the origin, denoted by “| |”.

2. The absolute value of any rational number is a number greater than or equal to 0; this is known as the non-negativity of absolute values.

3. The absolute value of a positive number is the number itself; the absolute value of a negative number is its opposite; the absolute value of 0 is still 0.

4. There are two numbers that have the same absolute value; these two numbers are either opposites or equal.

5. The absolute values of two numbers that are opposites are equal.

6. When comparing two negative numbers, the one with the larger absolute value is actually smaller.
