Introduction to CSR Files:

1. A CSR file, short for Certificate Signing Request, is a file generated when applying for an SSL/TLS certificate.

2. A CSR file contains the public key and other information of the entity applying for the certificate; this information is used by the Certificate Authority (CA) to create the certificate.

3. Contents of a CSR file

(1) Public Key: This is the public portion of the key pair generated by the applicant. The private key must be kept confidential and must never be disclosed.

(2) Organizational Information: Includes the organization’s name, department name, city, state, country, and other details.

(3) Domain Name: The domain name that the certificate will protect.

(4) Email Address: The email address of the contact associated with the certificate.

(5) Signature: The CSR file typically contains a digital signature created by the private key used to generate the CSR, ensuring that the content has not been tampered with.

4. Important Notes:

(1) After generating the CSR, you must ensure the security of the private key, as it will be used to decrypt data encrypted with the public key and for server authentication after the certificate is installed.

(2) Do not regenerate the CSR: Once the CSR is submitted to the CA, it should not be regenerated, as this will result in a change to the public key, thereby invalidating the certificate that has already been issued.
