Introduction to Gomoku:

1. Gomoku, also known as Five in a Row or Five-in-a-Row, is a purely strategic board game played by two players.

2. Gomoku originated in ancient China and later spread to countries such as Japan and South Korea, gradually evolving into an international mind sport.

3. Gomoku Rules

(1) Board: Gomoku is typically played on a 15×15 grid board, though there are variants that use a 19×19 board.

(2) Pieces: Each player uses black and white pieces, with Black usually moving first.

(3) Placing Pieces: Players take turns placing their pieces on the intersections of the board; once a piece is placed, it cannot be moved.

(4) Winning Condition: The player who first forms a continuous line of five (or more) of their own pieces along a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line wins.

4. Key Strategies in Gomoku

(1) Opening: Generally, Black will choose to place a piece near the center of the board to gain an opening advantage. White must consider how to counterbalance Black’s advantage.

(2) Defense and Offense: Gomoku is not just an offensive game; defense is equally important. Players must constantly monitor their opponent’s formations and block their attacks in a timely manner.

(3) Formations: There are various formations in Gomoku, such as a live three, live four, sleeping three, and sleeping four. Different formations represent different offensive and defensive potentials.

(4) Calculation and Intuition: Gomoku requires players to possess strong calculation skills and intuitive judgment to identify opportunities for victory in complex positions.
