Introduction to the Sixty-Stem-Branch Cycle:

1. The Table of the Sixty Jiazi, also known as the "Sixty Flower Jiazi" or simply "Hua Jia," is a method used in ancient China to record time. It consists of sixty combinations formed by pairing the Ten Heavenly Stems with the Twelve Earthly Branches in a specific sequence.

2. The method of recording the Sixty Jiazi has a long history in Chinese culture and has been widely applied in various fields, including calendars, astronomy, geography, divination, and medicine.

3. Structure of the Sixty Jiazi:

(1) Heavenly Stems: These include Jia, Yi, Bing, Ding, Wu, Ji, Geng, Xin, Ren, and Gui, totaling ten.

(2) Earthly Branches: These include Zi, Chou, Yin, Mao, Chen, Si, Wu, Wei, Shen, You, Xu, and Hai, totaling twelve.

(3) When the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches are combined in sequence, they form sixty distinct combinations, known as the Sixty Jiazi.

4. Applications of the Sixty Jiazi:

(1) Calendrical Systems: The Sixty Jiazi is a vital component of ancient Chinese calendrical systems, used to record and calculate time.

(2) Divination: In divination, the Sixty Jiazi are used to denote a person’s birth time (year, month, day, and hour), thereby determining their destiny and personality.

(3) Medicine: In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Sixty Jiazi, combined with the Five Elements theory, is used to analyze and treat illnesses.

(4) Feng Shui: In Feng Shui, the Sixty-Stem-Branch Cycle is used to select auspicious dates and times for activities such as construction and moving.
